Wine Enthusiast Guide features thousands of wines, but search function is balky

Whether you’re a wine newbie or a connoisseur, this Wine Enthusiast Guide offers something for every wine fan. Yet patience is required when using this app to find a new wine because the search function is poor.

Drawing on the tradition of Wine Enthusiast Magazine, the app features information about tens of thousands of wines, with more than 1,000 reviews added each month.

The search function helps you discover new wines by cost, varietal and region, plus other filtering options. It’s helpful to be able to sort search results by rating and price as well – cutting down on the time it takes to sift through the results.

Unfortunately, the search function doesn’t work well. I searched for a specific price point and type of wine. There were too many results to search through, so I tried to filter results by rating, only to receive an error message. I tried a few different searches. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn’t.

That’s a shame because I’m not a wine expert and Wine Enthusiast Guide provides so much information it is almost overwhelming.

Every wine entry features the cost, year, overview and rating. Currently, the entries show a picture of the bottle, which can’t be enlarged. Including an image of the label would be more helpful if you’re using the app while looking for a bottle in a store.

Lastly, the reference section of Wine Enthusiast Guide is very valuable. The Wine 101 library offers information ranging from buying and cooking with wine to gift giving and storing wine.
