What GolfHub iPhone app lacks in innovation, it makes up for in simplicity

Late November isn’t exactly prime golf season. After all, for much of the country, the weather is more conducive to sitting on the couch watching sports instead of going outside to play them.

So while the timing may be confusing for the release of GolfHub, an app that allows you to search for and book tee times on golf courses around the United States, the app itself is far from perplexing. And while it’s about as simple as an app can get, it’s a handy tool at the same time.

When I say simple, I mean real simple. You enter your location, date, time and number of players, and GolfHub gives you a list of available tee times and courses. You can then either book a tee time or get more information on the course.

As far as features go, that’s pretty much the entire app. There are also “history” (you can view past bookings) and “favorites” sections, but that’s it.

There plenty of simple additions that would improve the app, from course pictures to the inclusion of golf-related retail shops. But this is a free download, so GolfHub is forgiven for not being packed full of stuff.

A more legitimate complaint about the app is the number of courses it includes. They advertise ‘hundreds’ of courses, so I’m sure there are plenty of them missing. In my search of the available courses in the Chicago area, I was only given four options.

But just about every app that includes a search for businesses suffers from this same problem. This is the most common complaint with similar apps such as Tee Times and Book Golf Times, and I’m sure it will be the most common complaint with this app as well.

With that said, as a free download you really have no reason not to try GolfHub for yourself. It’s got a simple and smart design, and even though it doesn’t do much, it does what it says.
