There are a myriad of beautiful places to visit in California, but its famed Napa Valley has to be somewhere near the top of the list. But if you plan to make a trip, don’t bother buying a travel guide, just download the free Visit Napa Valley iPhone app.

The app provides users with a thorough overview of the history of the area, as well as some key offerings in the way of sightseeing, wine tasting and dining out. Start by opening the digital map, and assess where you are in relation to the area’s signature wineries and restaurants. Then you can plan on how to proceed, either via car, foot or bicycle.

The app includes a useful list of current events, such as the Downtown Blues Festival, as well as future events. There is also a “Hot News” category that gives the last scoop on restaurant acquisitions, etc. You can also search for events by specific category, including recreation, shopping, and so on.

Napa can be a pricey place, but with the help of the app, you can hold on to at least a few of your dollars. Use its “offers” feature to seek out low-priced deals.

And of course, if you come across an amazing tasting locale, or a restaurant that you have to get back to, bookmark it among your favorites.
