VEVO, just another music app

The VEVO iPhone app has lots of music and lots of music videos, but little to distinguish it from other music-related apps and web sites and podcasts.

On the main screen of the app are a half dozen top recording artists, their cooler-than-crap photo album headshots scrolling by. Click on one, Katy Perry, for example, you get a long scrolling list of her most popular jingles. But after you listen to the song, or watch the video, the options aren’t much different than what you’re probably already doing with the iTunes and iPod already built into your phone. You can add it to your playlist, share it with a friend, or click on the link to iTunes to buy the song.

The app has two somewhat cool features. The first allows you to search for music videos by premieres. So if you’re counting the days until the release of the new Kings of Leon album, this might be a good place to start come Oct. 19, 2010. The other allows you to search artists on tour, handy if you’re gearing up for a concert, and want to brush up on tunes.

Nevertheless, this is content that can be found on a myriad of different music sites.
