Vegetarians Should Green-light VegOut – The Vegetarian Restaurant Guide

If you’re a vegetarian, you’ll soon realize that VegOut – Vegetarian Restaurant Guide is an app you won’t want to live without.

From the publishers of HappyCow.net, this $2.99 app is billed as a “compassionate eating guide,” and acts as a meat-free version of Yelp, offering reviews and information on vegetarian restaurants.

Anyone familiar with HappyCow.net will see many of their favorite features included in VegOut. After determining your location, the app lists restaurants within a 10- or 20-mile radius, along with ratings and other of information.

My favorite part of the app is that the restaurants are nicely divided into vegetarian-friendly, vegetarian-only and vegan. The review section takes you to the actual Web site, which is a bit of a bummer because it can be difficult to read, but nonetheless is a great tool to have on your iPhone.

VegOut does all the other things your typical restaurant-finding app does, offering phone numbers, maps and directions. The one thing I found disappointing was that unlike the Web site, vegetarian stores are not listed on the app. So if you are looking for an app that will tell you where you can buy seitan, for example, you are going to be out of luck.

Aside from that flaw, this app is nearly perfect. If you are new in town or do a lot of traveling, you have to give this app a try. In fact, even if you think you know all the vegetarian restaurants in your town, VegOut is still a worthy download.
