Tweetion 2 for iPad Only is all flash, no function

Tweetion 2 for iPad Only claims to offer a fresh approach to Twitter. What the app actually offers is some flashy features without the required functionality of a useful Twitter app.

Tweetion 2’s standard interface is divided into two panes when you use your iPad in landscape mode. If the app displayed your Twitter friend feed in the larger of the two panes, I would have no issue with this app. But it doesn’t. Instead your friends are displayed in the narrower of the two spaces, which is not wide enough to display the full 140 characters. Tapping an individual tweet displays it in the wider pane, along with follower information for that user, but the result is a lot of wasted space. Going to your own profile page and then selecting your timeline will display the most-recent 50 of your friend’s tweets, but upon refresh, you’ll only be able to see your own tweets.

Tweetion 2’s most interesting feature is the “Pop Social” section, which displays the most popular Twitter accounts from the Top 20 accounts of musicians, comedians and celebrities. This is a nice feature for finding new personalities to follow, but not enough of a draw to warrant a $2 purchase. Tweetion also offers features such as auto posting to Facebook, unlimited accounts, drafts and translation support for 50 languages, however, simply creating a new tweet, replying or retweeting is a chore. Viewing links or photos also takes more effort than I’m used to putting forth when it comes to Twitter.

Tweetion has clearly put more effort into creating its features than it has in creating a truly useable Twitter app for iPad. This is one to avoid.
