The Eye Chef Big Game is a recipe app for the iPhone that gives you eight recipes for $1.99. The theme of the recipes is the big game (I’m guessing the Super Bowl). This app shows you how to prepare food. The camera is looking down on your food as you prepare it, thus never showing anyone’s face: It’s all about the food. I haven’t tried any of these recipes, but they all look really good. I like how the narrator tells you a little bit about the food as you follow along. He gives hints, such as how to julienne your vegetables.
Each recipe comes with a complete listing of ingredients, instructions and a video about how to prepare the recipe. You can even email the recipe to yourself. But I think it’s more helpful to be able to watch it as you make it. You’re going to want to watch the videos in portrait mode because if you turn it to landscape, you’ll end up losing half of the picture.
It’s too bad the sound quality is sub-par. There’s a faint, but noticeable, hum in all of the audio. The other thing the app developer needs to keep in mind is that there are a few typos and some sentences get cut off, leaving the reader wondering what to do next. These are little fixes that could make this app much better.
