Variety is reporting that actor and serial angel investor Ashton Kutcher is slated to play Steve Jobs in an upcoming biopic. This does not appear to be an April Fool’s Day gag.

Rather than playing the Jobs chronicled in the authorized biography Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson – which Sony Pictures is currently doing – this independently produced project will focus on Jobs’ exploratory years:

The film will chronicle Steve Jobs from wayward hippie to co-founder of Apple, where he became one of the most revered creative entrepreneurs of our time.

No word yet if Bill Gates will be portrayed by Jon Cryer. Stay tuned.
