You’re probably not a novice to the popular Tap Tap games if you’re considering Tap Tap Coldplay. But, if you are, and you love the British band Coldplay, never fear—the game is easy to learn and easy to get addicted to.

Tap Tap Coldplay is the same as the other apps in the Tap Tap family (excluding Lady Gaga Revenge). As beats scroll down the display, tap them as they reach the horizontal bars near the bottom of the screen. At times you’ll also need to shake the phone in the direction of a beat arrow, but this option can be turned off in settings. The more beats in a row you hit, the higher score multiplier you receive—“Revenge” mode increases your score times eight.

Where Tap Tap Coldplay differs in comparison to other versions of Tap Tap is in its design. Scenes from many of Coldplay’s videos are incorporated during the main levels and fade in and out during the boss levels. Although visually appealing, I found that the graphics hampered game play. With so much going on in the background—the rails have moving bubbles and butterflies—there’s a lot to distract you from hitting the beats.

Once revenge mode kicks in, the background movement ramps up and I often missed beats that needed to be held down because the streaming effect blended into the background noise. On the harder levels, I also experienced quite a few glitches and lags, which caused me to drop notes.

I don’t particularly care for Coldplay’s music, so I can live without this app. However, I think fans will enjoy this version of Tap Tap. I do wonder, with Coldplay’s extensive discography, why more tracks weren’t developed, but this app does include 13 tracks, including “Clocks,” “Yellow,” “Speed of Sound,” “The Scientist” and “Viva la Vida.”
