Packing, hotel reservations, in-laws – holiday travel can be a terribly stressful experience. And now there are the extraordinarily long lines for the full-body scan at the airport.

We can’t promise that the airline won’t you lose your luggage, or that the highways won’t be packed with thousands of other cars, but we can offer you a little bit of holiday travel relief in the form of a few clever iPhone apps. So grab your phone and a gallon of eggnog, and hit the road.

Our nation’s airports are busiest around the holidays. Mix in a Midwestern snowstorm, and brace for some serious delays. You’re going to want to stay on top of your flight status with a flight-tracking app. We recommend Flight Tracker by SpashData ($0.99) because it’s among the cheapest options and is extremely easy to use.

If you are among the millions of Americans planning to travel by car, make sure you have the AAA TripTik Mobile app (free). With its handy GPS feature, there will be no arguments about where to turn. Further, it allows you to search for conveniently located gas stations, hotels, restaurants, mechanics and more, so you’ll never be in a bind.

Take advantage of a long car ride and create some family bonding time with the Road Trip Fun app ($0.99). It includes a long list of entertaining games, such as I Spy and 20 Questions.

For those travelers who feel a bit nervous, the Travel Tips app ($0.99) offers a long list of helpful suggestions to get you through the flight, or drive. This is the app to check out if you’re a nervous flier, or looking to make the most of a short weekend getaway.

You need to make sure you capture travel memories with some great photography. The Pano app ($2.99) allows you to take some top-notch wide-angle photos by stitching several photos together to form a panorama. And with the SodaSnap Postcards app (free), you can turn them into digital postcards, and send them off to friends. (Who doesn’t like to make their friends feel jealous?)

7-11 big gulps at the rest stop, white wine spritzers on the plane – chances are, somewhere along the way, you’re going to need to locate a restroom. But don’t embarrass yourself by asking. The Whizzer Lite app (free) will help you locate a clean bathroom so you can relieve yourself, or change a baby’s diaper.
