Surviving Los Angeles

Feb 18, 2010

Sometimes living in the city of angeles is tough…these help me get through the day and navigate the city

Waze – GPS Navigation, Maps & Social Traffic

Great little GPS/Map app…makes driving a little more bearable. See my review

INRIX Traffic Maps, Routes & Alerts

The most important app you can check before getting in your car!

Local Concerts

Great location based concert finder which also searches the music on your phone for who’s playing around you.

Foursquare – Find Places to Eat, Drink, and Visit

Nothing better then being the mayor

OpenTable – Restaurant Reservations, Reviews, Menus, Local Food & Dining

Need to make last minute reservations while out and about…see what’s available and get some good food

The best app to see what the locals have to say

ABC7 – Los Angeles news, weather & sports source

Local news, info, weather, etc

Emergency Radio (Police Scanner)

In case of fire, flood, earthquake, riot or police chase, not a bad tool to have.

Aha Radio

This app includes current traffic(either nearby or user generated), on demand podcasts, driver rants, certain twitter feeds, facebook status updates and few other things you might find interesting while driving. While this might sound like a lot of other apps out there, this app reads to you the traffic reports, facebook feeds and twitter updates with a relatively impressive computerized voice. That way you don’t have to actually look at the phone to get the information you need. The icons to select the services are nice and big which make it easy to navigate while driving so you can concentrate on the road. And the best part, it’s free. This is a must get for anyone who drives a lot or deals with a lot of traffic on a daily basis like those of us in the LA area.
