Fend off Turkey Day stress with these iPhone apps

With all the various cooking, organizing and entertainment apps available, your iPhone might just be your best friend and savior on Thanksgiving. So if you’re nervous about pulling off Turkey Day without having a nervous breakdown, check out some of these apps.

Best iPhone apps for feasting

The iCooking American Celebrations app (99 cents) offers popular recipes based on the holiday, including Thanksgiving. So if this is your first Thanksgiving, this app is a great place to start. I love this app because it allows you to enter in your own recipes, including photos. And, with the email feature, it’s easy to share your recipes with guests who are bound to love them!

If you are a little Type A like me, check out the iHost Thanksgiving app (99 cents). Not only does this app allow you to plan your entire event, including guest list, menu, shopping list and budget, it also allows you to create numerous events. So I’m using it to plan my office potluck, Thanksgiving at my boyfriend’s aunt’s house and my own day-after Thanksgiving meal.

iPhone apps for Turkey Day family fun

Good for a giggle, download the Gobbler app (99 cents). This silly app makes a very realistic “gobble, gobble” noise when you tap the screen and comes complete with a very ugly turkey head popping up on your iPhone. For additional fun, change the background photo to one of your family and then surprise them with a “gobble, gobble.”

The free Thanksgiving Jokes app will ensure you have something to say to every strange family member. You’re sure to be the life of the party with jokes such as: What do you get when you cross a turkey with an octopus? Enough drumsticks for Thanksgiving! Okay, maybe save the jokes for the youngsters.

Are you addicted to Bejeweled? Try the free Turkey Trot app. It’s basically a Thanksgiving-themed version of the gem matching game. And best of all, it’s free!

Thankful for travel iPhone apps

If you have a lot of family flying in from various parts of the country to join your celebration, the free Travelocity app is great for looking up flight arrivals and gates, since you don’t want to forget to pick up Aunt Mildred at the airport! And, with the free Live Flight Tracker app, you can look up any flight delays so you don’t waste a moment of Thanksgiving preparation time waiting at the airport.

If you are traveling during the holidays and freaking out about missing your local Black Friday sales, check out the TGI Black Friday app while you are waiting for the next round of basting the turkey. Surely, hunting down the best deals will get you through a run in with crazy Uncle Billy Bob.
