Stick-Fu iPhone app a basic, but fun, fighting game

Stick-Fu is a fun app for those who like games with blood and fighting, but also have a good sense of humor. Punch, kick and dodge your way through the horizontal-scrolling stick figure adventure. The gameplay is reminiscent of Double Dragon on the first Nintendo system, but with less controls.

You are the superhero Stickman, charged with eradicating five levels of zombie-like stickheads. Environments include a cemetery, ghetto, city, dump and suburb.

The simple controls consist of four buttons: right, left, hit, and a “super hit” button for special moves and weapons, which activates after you build up enough combo points.

One downside to Stick-Fu is that punches and kicks are combined into a single fight button. But the game’s modern graffiti graphics are so colorful and sharp that this omission is forgivable.

The game has a sense of humor about it, noticeable down to the details. Spray-painted on one of the backgrounds is the message, “Love your ghetto.” Stickman travels from level to level in a vehicle marked “S. o. F.,” “Sticks of Fortune,” and tombstones in the cemetery read “Stick Stickman.”

If you’re in the mood for a basic fighting game that boasts slick graphics and might give you a chuckle, Stick-Fu is for you. For 99 cents, it’s reasonable, and you can try out the Lite version to see if you like it before you buy. On the other hand, or stick as it were, if you want more controls in your fighting game, venture elsewhere.
