Social Media response to iOS 5 announcement at WWDC

The Twitterverse, like usual, had a lot to say about the iOS 5 announcement. There was grumbling from app developers that Apple had taken their best ideas, swipes from Android fans, and, of course, adulation from Apple lovers.

wired: Jobs comes out to “I Feel Good” and a standing ovation.

mustardhamsters: Long tense pause in the music, everyone straightens up and watches for action. Next song starts. We’re already being trolled.

petermaurer: WWDC keynote: Royal Wedding for nerds.

MacworldUK: Jason Snell – Multi-touch is a vital part of the future of the Mac

scottopia: 250 new features in Lion. Looks like a move to a more iPad-like experience.

noahkravitz: “The page feels really alive beneath your fingers”

rekle: Looks like it’s the return of brushed metal.

jeanalawrence: So, Lion is basically iOS for the Mac? Nice.

noahkravitz: TWITTER is mentioned. (everybody drink)

jkendrick: Bringing tablet (touch) controls into the very core OS X, Apple has beat MSFT to the punch with Windows 8. Again.

Scobleizer: YouTube is coming to Xbox? Oh, now THAT is huge!

NicoleLazzaro: Mac OS Lion for the desktop apps looks and works like iOS mobile.

medlmobile: We don’t need to worry about saving any more with OSX Lion.

brokenbottleboy: AirDrop also known as “how do you like them apples, Dropbox?”

noahkravitz: Apple takes the stuff other companies have already done and makes it way prettier and often simpler to grasp. That = $$$

thurrott: Breaking news: Apple fans (sorry, “journalists”) aghast that Apple would only charge $30 for an OS service pack. 🙂

dsilverman: Oh, look! You get to the Notification Center by swiping down from the top of the screen. WONDER WHERE THAT IDEA CAME FROM?

IpsosVantis: Now talking Newstand- is this where they put all the cool news for iPad and iPhone apps out of biz?

mhp: I’ve got some work to do 1500 new APIs.

sebastienpage: Apple can thank the jailbreak community for its new Notifications Center… #RippedOff

philnelson: iOS doesn’t have Twitter integration so much as it has F@#% Facebook integration. (editor’s note: orginal tweet changed)

Mustardhamsters: Reading List: Basically an exact copy of Instapaper built into the system.

appfreak: “Thanks Instapaper, we’ll take it from there” – Fake Scott Forstall

bgilham: Reminders just killed a certain location-aware task app. 😉

marcoarment: S@#%. (editor’s note: orginal tweet changed)

DennisLaumen: @marcoarment rename to hipstapaper, “we read later before you did”.

majicDave: Glad I don’t have a camera app in the store.

martinvars: When Google and MSFT like a start up they buy it. When Apple likes a start up they copy it. Instapaper.

toddbarnard: lol iOS5 pull down “notification center” Apple’s “I invented the Internet” moment ala Al Gore

noahkravitz: BREAKING: SELL YOUR RIM STOCK NOW

bastianallgeier: It’s like Apple let third party developers work for months and years to come up with the best solutions to finally just steal them.

workforfood: Apple has launched today: Fullscreen software, Dropbox, Sparrow, Remember the Milk and Instapaper. #pirates

tim: Apple’s new iOS chat service – is a HUGE BIG deal. Forget Ping, this is the social network for iPhone users

Vance14: Apple is just paying back Android for swiping its original iPhone UI by swiping back everything Android has done since. 🙂

justme2: The MobileMe family just ordered up onion rings in a Jersey diner.

Percival: Lots of great new features in iOS5 but I feel like I need to hug a few app devs now and tell them “it’s going to be OK” :/

dcurtis: Apple just pissed off: Dropbox, Sparrow, Instapaper, Readability, Remember the Milk, Facebook, RIM, & the carriers. Well done.

tedlandau: Of course, before photos can be moved to iCloud, Apple will review them to check for nudity, porn, etc.

balanon: Steve Jobs is Oprah Winfrey for men.
