Social Essentials

The key apps that I use daily to keep updated of my friends’ activities and find new people to connect with.

I have tried a myriad of Twitter apps, and find the official twitter app the best designed app for most people including me. I use this more than i use my RSS reader to keep up with news.

Everyone you know and their pets are all on facebook. The client offers an easy to consume interface to the popular social network.

Foursquare – Find Places to Eat, Drink, and Visit

Foursquare seems to be leading the geo social networking pack. Find friends around you, get tips from them for places of your interest, checkin to your favorite places and share it with your friends. Geo social apps rely primarily on their phone clients, and the Foursquare client works great

Similar to Foursquare, choose this if you find more friends on this network.

Localscope – Find places and people around you

Localscope lets you search Twitter, Foursquare and others to find people and places around you. Integrates with the twitter app, facebook and others to let you share your findings with your friends. A must have!

Colloquy – IRC Client

If you are an old timer like me, a lot of your socialization happens at a good old IRC channel, Then you need Colloquy. The best IRC client for the mac is also the best on the iPhone

A multi network client for those who prefer to not clutter their phones with apps for each network separately. Supports about a dozen of different networks (Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, Tumblr, LinkedIn, Flickr, Blogger, and many more)
