SkyFire Browser, Team Coco lead Fresh iPhone apps of the week

Fresh iPhone Apps of the Week brings you the best of the newly released apps. In this installment VDOSearch aggregates viral video sites while TeamCoco prepares you for Conan O’Brien’s new late night talk show that debuts on November 8. Plus, three more apps that you’ll find extremely entertaining and useful.

VDOSearch (iPhone) $0.99

It can be irritating to search through several different video websites looking for something good to watch, so VDOSearch has solved that problem for you. It allows you to quickly search all the major video sites — YouTube, Vimeo, MegaVideo, Metacafe and others — from one place, and then play the videos you find there.

You can adjust the playback quality of the videos based on your connection quality, so you can make sure your Wi-Fi can handle it, and you can also quickly and easily share various videos on the social networking sites you use, such as Facebook and Twitter.

Touchwriter HD (iPad) $2.99

Sometimes typing on a virtual keyboard can be tiresome, but the iPad has a touch screen, right? So you ought to be able to just write on it with your finger as if it were a piece of paper. At least, that’s what the people behind Touchwriter figured. And then they made it happen.

You can take notes with Touchwriter, as well as the ability to upload items to Google Docs straight out of the app. You can also add locations to your notes, so that they’re saved to a Google Map which you can later retrieve by geography instead of subject. Sounds like a great way to keep track of great ideas you previously wrote down when you can’t remember what they’re about.

Team Coco (iPhone) Free

The new TBS show Conan starts next week, and if you’re looking for even more from host Conan O’Brien, fire up the Team Coco app. It’s packed full of content related to the show — including plenty of clips from recent episodes.

Team Coco also lets you know about stuff that’s coming up on future episodes, and keys you into Conan O’Brien and Andy Richter’s Twitter accounts. There’s quite a bit of stuff here for Conan fans to enjoy.

Skyfire Web Browser (iPhone, iPad) $2.99

This alternative to the iOS version of Safari has one element that sets it apart from every other browser available for iPad and iPhone — it can play Flash videos. Due to popular demand, however, there’s a good chance this app might not be currently available in the App Store because its developers need to increase bandwidth to support its popularity.

Apple has been staunchly against allowing Flash on its mobile devices since the first iPhone. The explanation has always been that supporting websites that use Flash takes up too much processing power and eats up too much battery life. Apparently Skyfire has either solved that problem (it cleverly converts Flash content to HTML5 which iOS is able to play), or Apple decided it didn’t really care.

MegaMind – Storybook App (iPhone, iPad) $2.99

The film MegaMind was released on Friday. This app brings the story of the film and some cool moving and still images to the iPhone and iPad in a read-along storybook format.

The app is equipped with several options meant to help teach kids about reading including a “read to me” mode, a “read alone” mode, and a third option that just lets the storybook run automatically. Kids should get a kick out of the high-quality artwork that occasionally includes motion elements, and the story is well-read and maintains the movie’s humorous tone.
