Sketch Agent Pro iPhone app draws a blank

It would seem at this point that we are slowly taking each photo tool from Adobe Photoshop and turning them all into individual apps for iOS. This app is another rendition of the “turn your photo into a drawing,” which is also known as a sketch filter in Photoshop. Sketch Agent Pro ($1.99) is an unexceptional sketch filter application for iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch devices running iOS 4.0 or later.

If you are unfamiliar with Adobe Photoshop’s sketch filter, the app allows you to take a photo and turn it into a faux sketch; you can also adjust stylistic attributes such as the thickness of the stroke and the method of the drawing. It can also make the image look like a line drawing, a drawing that looks very accurate and sharp, or something more abstract with a thicker stroke. You can choose to make them black and white (more like a pen or pencil sketch), or a color style that portrays a colored pencil/pen sketch.

There are many apps for the iPhone that don’t feel like an iPhone app. There is a certain style that seems to be lost on many developers. The medium of touch with buttons and large icons is not found in this app. The home screen looks like something from the late ’90s and does not speak to the technological day and age that we find ourselves in. Another interesting thing that I noticed in this app that I haven’t found in other apps (mostly because they are not needed) is an “exit” button to close the app.

This app is nothing extraordinary and certainly not worth the $1.99. There are other options out there if you are looking for this particular functionality for your images. There are also some free options out there that will allow you to test the functionality before buying. Sketch Agent Pro is just another sketch app to add to the crowd and it certainly does not stand out.
