I’m a self-appointed expert on sleep. I get at least eight hours a night pretty much every night, and knock on wood, have never really had a problem sawing logs. Was I born with it like Maybelline? I think not. I’ve set up some good rituals that keep my body and mind in line with falling asleep come 10 p.m. If you need some non-medicated help falling asleep at night or during the day if you dare, here are some iPhone apps that can help you find your sleeping bliss.

Dozzzer – Sleep Timer ($0.99)

This clever musical app slowly fades your night-time playlist, lulling you into sleep without abruption. The Dozzzer app even works with external speakers so you can use it whether you are a headphone baby or a more sophisticated iHome owner. Now, if I could only find an app to dull my man’s snoring…

NAP26 Premium ($2.99)

Suzanne Somers comes to mind when I’m thinking ThighMaster, not usually nap master. Yet, this lovely lady of fitness is determined to defy aging and has lent her name to the NAP26 Premium. This app promises to rejuvenate you with a three-hour nap in 26 minutes. Warning: Don’t try this at your desk during your lunch hour. Save it for the weekend or try the Easy2Sleep night-time program for weekdays when sleep seems elusive.

Zero – Todo List (Free)

Sometimes falling asleep is only a matter of clearing your-ever clogged brain of all the activities it wants you to remember to do. So start a nightly ritual, or better yet, do this before you leave work for the day, and use Zero – Todo List to dump all your activities for the following day into this app. That way you can fall asleep soundly, knowing that you won’t forget something at work or school the next day. Saw some logs with zero to-dos on the brain!

Gratitude & Happiness (Free)

If just dumping your to-do list off into an app doesn’t do it for you, try tracking what you are grateful for each day. The free Gratitude & Happiness (Self-help Journal, Todo, Thoughts & Mood Tracker) app is perfect for charting your happiness over time and, ultimately, sleep patterns. Hopefully, when you are taking the time to be kind to others and being grateful for the good things in your life, it will be easier to sleep at night.

Bedtime Rhyme by StoryBoy ($0.99)

So you finally got to sleep and your toddler hobbles into your room scared of the monster under the bed. Adults aren’t the only ones who need bedtime rituals. If young children are keeping you from your sleeping bliss, then check out the Bedtime Rhyme by StoryBoy app, which is perfect way to start a night-time ritual with your child.
