Rumor: There really could be a new iPhone at WWDC

It’s rumor mill time.

We’ve been hearing from various sources the speculation bouncing around the Internet that there will be no iPhone 5 this year. What’s more, we’ve been hearing that the iPhone iteration that will be released this year, what’s has quickly become known as the iPhone 4S (or maybe the iPhone 4G) won’t appear at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference this summer, but rather will be announced in the fall.

But WWDC, the traditional announcement event for the iPhone, is just two weeks away (June 6), and new rumors are starting to circulate – rumors that suggest that this new iPhone could, in fact, make a summer debut.

Follow this train of evidence: According to a story from UK tech blog Electricpig, Apple public relations employees have been trying to convince UK tech journalists to make the stupidly long trip to San Francisco to the conference. The blog cites an unnamed source, but from the sounds of things, those Apple folks are really trying to convince journalists that it’s worth the trip, and that suggests something big – like new iPhone big, apparently.

Okay, so…yeah, that’s a little thin. But who knows; strange things have come out of the blue from Apple, that’s for sure. At the very least, we’re expecting to see a new brand of iOS to come out of WWDC, and it’s sounding more and more likely that Apple could detail its cloud music service during the conference as well.

And maybe Electricpig is clutching at unnamed-source straws, but we, like them, would like to believe an iPhone announcement at WWDC is possible.

iPhone 4 primed to hit India, iPad 2 headed to Russia, several other countries Friday

Apple is readying the iPhone 4 and the iPad 2 to hit a couple of massive markets this week in India and Russia. The iPad 2 also is about to be released in Ukraine, Chile, Argentina and Brazil, it seems.

A report from 9to5Mac says Apple will release the iPhone 4 in India’s 1.2 billion-person market on May 27, with the device running 16GB iPhone buyers 34,500 Indian rupees, or $760 U.S., care of Indian mobile carrier Aircel. For the 32GB model, it’s 40,900 rupees or about $900.

Meanwhile, retailers in Russia are telling 9to5Mac that demand for the iPad 2, which releases Friday, is “unprecedented.” Sounds like Apple will tap into some massive new markets with the releases.

So Apple enthusiasts in other countries are about to be made pretty happy – hopefully those of us in the U.S. will have something to smile about come WWDC, too.
