Art Jam Paintings isn’t exactly a passive app, considering there is some level of user interaction that takes place with the paintings available, but those expecting a full-fledged art-based game ought to look elsewhere.

The app is more educationally focused than anything else. It presents six paintings from artists like da Vinci, Manet, Klimt, Picasso and others, and lets users rearrange the objects in the painting as they see fit. Users can change as little or as much of the painting as they want, and then take a picture of their remixed painting and upload it to Facebook.

It’s easy to get the hang of moving objects around the painting, so the learning curve for Art Jam Paintings is minimal. But the app itself feels a little slim. Although each painting comes with a paragraph of information about the work, some additional biographical info or a more in-depth look at the piece would go a long way to making it seem like users are getting their money’s worth here. As it is, five bucks to move some pieces around on a classic work of art seems a bit much.

But if the price is irrelevant to you and you’d like to have your way with some classic pieces of art, Art Jam Paintings is ripe for picking. Just don’t say I didn’t warn you if you’re wondering what to do after you’ve uploaded your picture. Sometimes, an art painting app is just an art painting app.
