Qrank iPhone app more than a clever name

A creative name is always a good place to start, but a clever and creative name definitely sets you a notch above the rest. The free Qrank iPhone app by Ricochet Labs Inc. is a great social trivia game for your iOS device. It is essentially a social trivia “question ranking” game for you and your network of friends– and now you see where they got the name.

When you open the app, you get a grungy Ricochet splash screen and then you’ll find yourself at the login form. Establish your account and you are on your way. The account form is easy, requiring just email and password, which is nice because most account setups are more of a hassle then they’re worth. So log in, sign into Facebook, Twitter, or a number of other social network connections, and get on to the trivia!

You’ll now be on the title page, where the app’s grunge theme continues. You have three buttons on this screen: “Play,” “Results,” and “Find Live.” Tap “Play” to get the game going. You’ll be taken through a quick tutorial, and then you can get to answering questions; the quicker you answer the questions, the more points you get. After the game, you are prompted to post your score to your social networks. You can earn achievements as you play, so be sure to read up in order to be ready for the challenges ahead.

The “Results” button will take you to the outcome of that day’s Qrank session. The “Find Live” button will show you where other Qrankers are hanging out, so you can join in some head-to-head trivia madness. The settings and the “About” page can be found in the little “Info” button that is in the bottom right-hand corner of the interface which, upon tapping, reveals a little slide-out drawer– a very nice touch by the developers.

Overall, this app is a picnic. It runs smoothly and has a very appealing presentation layer. I really enjoyed the questions and despite the face that I need to brush up on my trivia, I had fun. The only downside is that you can’t play more than once a day, unless you have a Qrank live location. I guess I’ll just have to wait until tomorrow.
