Public Radio App a must-have iPhone app for fans

Holy Click and Clack! ThePublic Radio App has killed the driveway moment. Got a trunk full of groceries and a red-hot Car Talk on the dial? Fire up Public Radio App and take a live stream of the broadcast with you.

Public Radio App isn’t the only app that lets you access public radio programs, but it is unique in its ability to pause and rewind live content. Its simple DVR-like controls are easy to use. You can pause, rewind, and fast forward through the programming of hundreds of public radio channels.

Of course, if you find yourself in the middle of a pledge drive, you can click the “Become a Member” button, do your duty, then access something from Public Radio App’s On Demand feature. On Demand lets you listen to hundreds of previously-aired programs on the go. You can get your Ira Glass fix between iTunes syncs, or try something completely new.

The Public Radio App is packed with other great features like radio bookmarks, search, and even an alarm clock. The alarm clock only works if you leave the app running all night, so that’s a little weak, but the rest of the app is golden.

My only gripe is that Public Radio App cannot run in the background. If you take a call or check your email, you have to start your stream anew. That can be frustrating if you were in the middle of something good, but it hardly takes away from the overwhelmingly positive experience.

All said, Public Radio App is a rock-solid, must-have app for public radio fans.
