PhotoCopier ($1.99) is a photo-editing tool that makes your photos look like they were painted in the style of famous works of art. With the touch of a single button, you can transform your photo in the style of Leonardo, Monet or Van Gogh. It might be a bit of a stretch to say that your newly edited photo looks like it could have been painted by Van Gogh, but at the very least the app gives you a ton of different choices to make your images look unique.

The first step is to choose a photo from your library. Then, you’ll choose a style for that photo. There are three categories: paintings, photos and processes. There are 72 paintings, 40 photos and 30 processes from which to choose. For example, you can choose Leonardo’s Mona Lisa to model your photo after. Or, you can add a photographic process such as Polaroid emulsion lift. To quote from the app store description, “The color, tone and brightness of the original work are replicated, while the texture, grain and detail are simulated.” In many instances, your photo will look nothing like the work of art you see on the screen, and you might feel like the app is a scam. However, the application does provide 142 slightly different predefined configurations for your photo’s attributes. It’s basically a unique photo editor. You can even further customize other attributes, such as color, tone and vignette.

After you’ve edited your photo, the only option you have is to save it to your library. It would be nice if you could share your photos directly with Facebook, Twitter and Flickr.

All in all, PhotoCopier might not “create a photographic reproduction of a printed or graphic work” 100 percent of the time, but it does allow for some interesting photo editing. If you’re into photography, then you’ll absolutely want to check this one out.
