Nike Footbal+ brings Spanish soccer club’s training tips to the iPhone

Nike has been pretty quite when it comes to the iPhone. The company’s NikeWomen Training Club and Nike Goal apps were met with reasonably good reviews, but it’s been almost a year since we’ve seen anything from the shoe giant.

That has changed in the past month, as the company has graced us with NikeiD and something we haven’t seen for the iPhone – a soccer training program known as Nike Football+ presents: Master Control.

The app includes more than a few training videos and a four-week training program that soccer players will eat up.

The program was developed by La Liga’s FC Barcelona’s coaches, and they as well as some of team’s top players host the videos. In addition to the drills, there are also tutorials to teach you signature moves from players such as Cesc Fabregas and Andres Iniesta.

The app even allows you to compete in timed challenges and upload them to get an idea of how you compare to others around the world.

The videos are in Spanish but come with English subtitles. Furthermore, while there are some individual drills, many require multiple players. There are also drills that require shooting, so a net will be needed.

Master Control will be more helpful to coaches and organized amateur teams than the individual weekend player. Still, anyone who plays soccer will find some use from the app.

The videos are well done, though the music can be a bit over the top.

I’m not sure if the iPhone is the best device for an idea like this, but Nike did a nice job. Master Control is focused just as much on being a training program as it is on being a training video, and offering that kind of interaction is welcome.
