New iPhone apps worth downloading: The White House update, Well, Journey to Real Madrid

Here are three great iPhone apps to enjoy. The White House app saw a big version 2.0 update which included a UI refresh and some additional useful functionality. Meanwhile, Well is an interesting kind of social network which “crowd-sources” your ‘to-do’ lists. Finally, we’ve got Journey to Real Madrid, a game which puts you in the shoes (cleats?) of three top European soccer stars.

The White House update (Free)

What’s it about? The official iOS app from The White House just got a big update which not only makes it look better, but adds new functionality.

What’s cool? Version 2.0 of the app arrives just in time for the Democratic Convention in Charlotte, NC. The app features better navigation, improved search, high-res photos tailored to the iPhone and iPad Retina display and a UI refresh. In addition, there are alerts available for live events and it’s now easy to favorite certain areas so you can keep track of the political news items in which you’re really interested.

Who is it for? Political news junkies who want to find out what the Commander in Chief is up to on a daily basis will appreciate the revamped White House app.

What’s it like? There are a few other White House sources in the iTunes App Store like White House Unofficial but none have seen updates for quite a while. It’s probably best to stick with the official one for now, or check out popular political apps like Politico.

Well (Free)

What’s it about? Well is an app about inspiration and motivation. It helps you gather and share the things you really want to do, whether they’re just to-do lists, books you want to read, or movies you want to see.

What’s cool? List-making isn’t usually a social thing, so that’s what makes Well quite intriguing. Once you’ve made a list, your friends can suggest additional ideas to add to it. Say you’re planning a road trip, people could suggest places to stay, restaurants to visit or stuff worth seeing along the way.

Who is it for? Well can be as public as you like. You can share lists with just friends or even open them up to the public. Like other social apps, there’s an element of discovery here – looking at other people’s lists, commenting on them or even “relisting” them is half the fun here.

What’s it like? Well takes a lot of its influence from other social discovery apps like Instagram or Path because it’s not just about the sharing, it’s about getting inspiration from others after seeing what lists they’ve been creating.

Journey to Real Madrid (Free)

What’s it about? The new NFL season may be getting all the press in the U.S., but over in Europe, soccer season is also underway. Here’s a fun footy game with which to celebrate.

What’s cool? Journey to Real Madrid follows the lives of the team’s biggest stars: Cristiano Ronaldo, Mesut Ozil and Zenedine Zidane. At first, you play on the streets as a child, then keep climbing the ranks through numerous interactive levels and mini-games until you reach the pinnacle: a place on the Real Madrid first team! You control the ball with simple swipe gestures, unlocking power-ups and rewards as you go. There are four unique game modes to enjoy.

Who is it for? People who enjoy the “flick kick” goal-scoring mechanic of other iOS games will take to the control scheme here pretty easily. Naturally, fans of the Real Madrid, La Liga and the three soccer stars themselves will enjoy this one.

What’s it like? Journey to Real Madrid offers a similar control mechanic to other “flicking” games like Flick Kick Football or Flick Soccer! There is also the official Real Madrid app available for the latest news and results.
