Speedtest.net Mobile Speed Test update (Free)

What’s it about? As you’ve probably gathered from the name, Speedtest.net lets you monitor the speed of the Internet connection coming into your mobile devices, giving you a full rundown of the quality of your mobile Internet service.

What’s cool? Like its web-based counterpart for computers, Speedtest.net is a really handy way of finding out just how fast your Internet connection is, primarily for the purpose of testing the strength of your connection and finding out if you’re getting what you’re paying for. The app makes testing your connection speed quick and easy, and provides lots of information about in the forms of stats and graphs that you can then use to troubleshoot your connection, or present as evidence to the companies providing your wireless service.

Who’s it for? If you could use information about your Internet speed on your iPad or iPhone, Speedtest.net can help.

Final Fantasy V ($15.99)

What’s it about? Developer Square Enix continues to bring its classic Final Fantasy role-playing titles to iOS, allowing players to relive the popular stories and turn-based battles – or try them for the first time.

What’s cool? Another in the line of Final Fantasy titles of yore popping up on iOS, Final Fantasy V takes players back to a game released 20 years ago in Japan, and that only made its way to the U.S. as a remake featured on the Sony Playstation. Final Fantasy V tells the story of four different characters who join together on a world-spanning adventure, each with a different set of skills and abilities related to their “job.” The famous job system allows a huge amount of customization, with 26 available roles you can assign your characters based on your play style.

Who’s it for? If you’re into old-school role-playing games and the Final Fantasy series in general, FFV is a piece of history.

What’s it like? Try Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy II for more early entries in the series.

Tiny Troopers 2: Special Ops ($0.99)

What’s it about? Squad-based strategy title Tiny Troopers 2 uses a simple, intuitive interface to allow players to guide troops around a battlefield and use each squad members special skills to take down bad guys.

What’s cool? Your job in Tiny Troopers 2 is to take control of a squad of soldiers and lead them into battle. From a top-down perspective, you’ll move troops around the battlefield, engaging enemy soldiers by using each squad member’s specific capabilities – like flamethrowers and machine guns. Working through the game requires you to recruit new squad members with different jobs, like medics, in order to keep you successful and keep your squad in the fight. Tiny Troopers 2 includes vehicle missions in which you’ll drive Humvees and avoid tanks, and there’s also a zombie mode that pits your squad against hordes of the undead.

Who’s it for? Players who like their strategy titles a little more focused and specialized will enjoy commanding squads in Tiny Troopers 2.

What’s it like? You’ll find a similar experience in the first Tiny Troopers, as well as in Great Big War Game.
