Mythbusters iPad app fun until it crashes and burns

We’re big fans of the Discovery Channel show Mythbusters around my house, so when the  iPad app ($4.99) came out, I grabbed it immediately.

My first impression of the app was that it’s really neat. Tap any option and hear some fun sound effects—icons fly around on the screen until they settle in their place.

The “Community” area accesses news, Tweet Chat, a “Meet the Cast” section and the Mythbusters’ Facebook and Twitter pages.

You can watch videos that include such categories as:  “Recent,” “Sneak Peeks,” “Cult Favorites,” and “Behind the Scenes.” Closing a video requires flicking, which seems neat until you realize it’s a little annoying. Just give me an “X” to tap. There are also photo galleries and a “Featured” area that lists the show a schedule, an episode guide, and a Mythbusters store.

There are also games, but I can’t tell you if they’re fun or not because I’ve not been able to successfully launch any of the three games (“Matchstick Cannon,” “Seesaw Saga” and “Soda Bomb”) without the app crashing on me.

To share anything you enjoy on the app via Facebook, Twitter or email, you must flick an icon towards the “Share” area. I wasn’t able to get it to work. I flicked a lot of icons, but they either bounced around the screen or went to the side and got electrocuted in what is supposed to be a “Favorites” area.
