Love by AIR iPhone app lets you write your own love songs

French electronic pop duo Air has joined forces with RjDj, a London-based music technology company, to create the iPhone app Love by AIR iPhone app ($1.99). Through the iPhone app, users can build on Air’s single “Love” to create their own love songs to share with their friends.

Love by AIR features five modes called “soundscapes,” which incorporate different audio effects during recording. With “Chanter,” the iPhone app puts your voice naturally in the music. “Harmonie” vocodes your voice or sound in real time and harmonizes it with the song. “Papillon” samples bits of sounds to create audio butterflies, “Voler” creates texture by layering and filtering your sounds and “Voyage” takes you through all four of the soundscapes.

The iPhone app’s volume is too low to shine through the iPhone’s native speakers, but the sound quality through headphones is surprisingly clear. After you’ve created your love song, Love by AIR encourages sharing by allowing users to upload their piece to RjDj.me, where the top Love recordings of the week can be heard by anyone. The iPhone app also supports sharing via Facebook and Twitter, and offers three built-in email templates.

Unfortunately, Love by AIR’s cool concept is marred by it’s extremely sluggish load time on my iPhone 3G (I can’t speak to the speed on a 3GS), which makes using the iPhone app tough. Before dropping $1.99, you may also want to listen to “Love” to see if you like it—there’s no way to stop the music in-app and it’s the only song included.
