LocalSpin tops iOS Apps of the Week

This week’s top iOS apps include an app to help you get restaurant recommendations from the people you trust most – your friends. Our other top apps include an app to pick NFL games with, an app to track your running, another to measure electrical circuits and one more to find the right ENT doctor for you.

LocalSpin

LocalSpin’s take on food-recommendations, specifically that they should come primarily from friends and not some group of Internet strangers, isn’t new, but the app packs a few unique specifications that help set it apart from the competition. Recommendations are done on a yay/nay system, eliminating wishy-washy two-and-a-half star reviews. All reviews must be completed in 140 characters or fewer, so your friends will have to get to the point when discussing their favorite spots to eat. These constraints lead to an app that is definitive in its praise and derision, leaving users a much clearer picture regarding their next meal.

Football Picks Game By Pickmoto

As tempted as I am to just write “football” fifty times and leave it at that, Football Picks Game By Pickmoto deserves something a bit more than that. But really, with the NFL season in full swing, it’s time to find all manner of ways to pick games, and Football Picks is as good as any other. Players pick winners (no spread) against the rest of the Internet and see who is the smartest guesser of them all. Picks can also be made one-on-one against a friend or a random person.

Run4Good

Run4Good brings together running and the fight against childhood obesity by encouraging athletes to keep up with the app’s challenges and charitable donations. Run4Good helps runners track their pace, times, personal records and calories burned. Runners can also view detailed histories of their circuits complete with route maps. When runners complete specific challenges as laid out in the app, Saucony and their corporate partners will donate to charities aimed at fighting childhood obesity.

CircuitCalc

Don’t get electrocuted, get CircuitCalc. CircuitCalc is a calculator to assist in measuring voltage, current, resistance and power. The app requires users to fill in at least two of the four fields and it will auto-populate the rest, so you’ll know your circuit values are correct. The simple interface doesn’t leave much room for confusion, as this all-business app gets right to the point.

EntLink

Winter is coming, and along with it, the usual gross feeling of having a sore throat, stuffy nose and clogged ears. EntLink is an easy and quick way to find the closest ear, nose and throat doctor near you when you need help fast. Patients can have the app detect their current location, or search within a specific distance, last name, or specialty. The app will also display the doctors located on a map view so you can decide which is most convenient to visit.
