Lack of features and real-time quotes hinders TheStreet.com

TheStreet.com Mobile helps you track business news and stocks like many similar apps, but its lack of other features makes it less appealing than the competition.

Still, it is a useful free finance app. TheStreet compiles stock quotes and business news, and it’s easy to get articles in several categories from TheStreet.com. The stories are useful and can be shared via e-mail. TheStreet also lets users punch in stocks from their portfolios to track market movements. The stocks are updated, with a 15-minute delay, via network connection, either cellular or Wi-Fi.

Also, subscribers to TheStreet.com’s Real Money service can punch their log-in information to access the site’s services on their iPhone.

But that’s about the end of the useful features. Unlike other apps such as CNN Money, TheStreet doesn’t offer multimedia or a variety of stories from other sources. It also doesn’t provide customized news the way BusinessWeek does.

The lack of real-time stock quotes may not be big deal for the layperson, but active traders would do better with an app that keeps track of the stock market minute-to-minute, instead the 15-minute delay.

Users who read or subscribe to TheStreet.com will probably use this free app, but most people will prefer something broader, such as CNN Money.
