I might as well come out an admit it—I’m a game addict. I had every intention of finding the iPhone game app Ice Age:  Dawn of the Dinosaurs (99 cents) to be a silly, pointless game, but once my little saber-toothed squirrel Scrat got poked by some mean, pointy little creature and I had to start over, I was hooked.

The purpose is to help Scrat collect acorns on his travels. You tell him where to go by tapping the screen. Various blocks and creatures impede Scrat’s progress as he climbs ladders or floats within bubbles of tar.  Other difficulties and modes of travel surely face Scrat in further levels, but I wouldn’t know, because I can’t seem to get him past this one point where he’s got to push three stacked blocks out of his way—he keeps getting squashed by the top block!

Seriously, my eyes are crossed and I’ve already cancelled my plans for this evening so I can conquer this game. (Help me!)

Playing tips are found along the way by tapping little wooden signposts. Dragging two fingers on the screen allows you to see what’s currently out of view so you can figure out where to send Scrat next.

The graphics are nice, the music doesn’t make me want to punch myself in the ear, and Scrat’s little sound effects are funny.
