iPhone apps for living alone

Apr 29, 2010

Living alone has its ups and downs. You can cook and blog naked, but there’s no one there to laugh at your jokes or eat your leftovers. These apps make it a little easier (and safer) to live by yourself.

Plerts • Personal Alerts

Plerts is a personal alert service. You select individuals beforehand and they have to agree to be part of your alerting system. This is a great app for people going out on blind dates, traveling alone or just arranging a Craigslist pick-up or drop-off. The app can simultaneously notify friends and family over email, SMS, Facebook and/or Twitter. It also includes maps with car and bike GPS marking, flashlight mode and ER alert.

iWitness Alert should be the first place you turn in case of an accident or emergency. With this app, you can send your GPS position to their server, store personal information and medical conditions for easy emergency access. The app can alert a group of up to 16 family and friends via email if you are in trouble. iWitness Reporter enables you to record events around you with the iPhone’s camera or microphone and share that with your alert group.

Package Tracker

Living alone means that there’s no one home to sign for your package. Package Tracker ensures that you will never miss a package again. The app monitors your package and sends you updates when it changes location. You can view all incoming packages, their status and estimated arrival date. It supports UPS, FedEx, USPS, DHL and more.

Save Benjis+

Save Benjis and Save Benjis+ help you save money. The price comparison app enables you to search through products by keyword or barcode and find the lowest price. Never go over your single income budget!

Grubhub Food Delivery & Takeout

GrubHub is an online service that shows you the restaurants in your area that deliver and allows you to order online. With the app, you can do the same thing. Unfortunately, you have to be in one of the following cities: New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Boston, Los Angeles, Washington D.C., Philadelphia and San Diego.

Whole Foods Market

Just because you live alone doesn’t mean you can’t eat healthy. Whole Foods app features a ton of recipes, including gluten-free, low-fat and vegetarian/vegan dishes. It also includes nutritional information and cooking instructions.
