iPhone App Video Review: Wharr: The Colossus Age

Mar 1, 2011

Vertical jumping games have seen quite a few iterations since the App Store was first launched. Games like Doodle Jump have topped the most downloaded list and provide plenty of distracting entertainment. Wharr: The Colossus Age is yet another one of these games but with a large twist to gameplay.

The game has you jumping like the others, but the entire time you are fighting giant monsters. Your character automatically swings with every leap and causes the monster damage.

The idea behind the game is that you will earn money to purchase skills which will help you in your battle. The concept of the game was great as was the art style but one essential element seemed to be missing. The gameplay was excruciatingly slow at times and more often than not felt unresponsive. This pretty much ruined the game for me as it was more of a letdown that I couldn’t control my character than it was fun to upgrade and fight.

Unless this game sees some improvements to character speed and control, I cannot recommend purchasing this app.
