iPhone App Video Review: Backbreaker 2

Backbreaker was probably one of the most fun arcade football games I have ever played on the iPhone. It reminded me so much of NFL Blitz with its smooth controls and close perspective. The latest in the apparent series is Backbreaker 2: Vengeance.

It’s aptly named as this time you will be given the option to run the ball or to throw your weight into a ball carrier. This is a nice twist as scoring touchdowns did get boring after a while in the original game. With this new perspective also comes the jump feature which throws yet another challenge in your way to scoring points.

The controls have pretty much stayed the same from the last version and one very large complaint I had right away was the poor graphics. Don’t get me wrong, the game looks great, but it wasn’t optimized for the iPhone 4 and looked pretty muddy while I was playing it.

For the current price, it’s really a toss-up. I personally think it’s a little too similar to the original and wouldn’t recommend dropping any cash unless you are a true fan of the series.
