iPhone app FitFu encourages you to exercise

FitFu is a 99-cent app for the iPhone. It’s intended for all you couch potatoes who don’t want to go to the gym, but still want something to keep them motivated to work out. FitFu could be the app for you if you like a little vocal encouragement while still being able to track your progress. It provides a means to exercise by showing you how the iPhone can be used as an exercise device. It illustrates where to place or attach the iPhone on your body so the built-in accelerometer will help you count the weight as it falls away. It can sense when you have the phone in the right place, and even suggests locations to place the iPhone. I tested this by purposely holding the device in my hand during squats, and the app told me to, “Stop squirming!” So I guess it’s more intelligent than I thought.

I like that it encourages you to keep going. It shows you, step-by-step, how to attempt the exercise, as well as offer full-color illustrations. It even tells you what part of your body the exercise is good for, and the proper stance. To change screens, swipe your finger as if you were looking at photos on your iPhone. You can adjust the number of reps that you want to attain by simply clicking on the “Target #.” You can also set the app to send you random exercises. Unlock additional exercises by completing the first level of exercises: knee pushups, squats and crunches. Or you can purchase the exercise for 99 cents. Either way, you’ll have to sign up to get the additional exercises. Personally, I wouldn’t pay to have someone show me how to do an exercise when you can pretty much get free videos on YouTube. The app gives you three exercises to try, and has five additional exercises to either buy or try if you sign-up with FitFu.com.

It also keeps tabs on what exercises you did and when. And let’s not forget the Fu animated character that likes to blow his horn about FitFu.
