Hurricane Apps

Jun 23, 2010

June 1st marked the official start to the Atlantic Hurricane Season. While an app isn’t going to stop one of these monsters there are some useful apps out there to help you deal with hurricanes.

Hurricane Supply List

New to hurricanes? Don’t remember what’s suggested to keep in your house for a hurricane? Don’t worry, this app has you covered. There are lots of different lists out there but apparently this list has aggregated all of them into one super complete list. take it with you to the store and have everything you’ll need… hopefully.

Hurricane Tracker

Tracking Hurricanes is a great use of your iPhone. Have the most up to date information with you rather than trying to find information. This app is worth having if you live in a place where hurricanes are common.

The Weather Channel – local forecasts, radar maps, storm tracking, and rain alerts –

This basic free app will help you monitor the weather and keep up to date on what might be coming. While it won’t be as in depth as the hurricane trackers listed it may give you an early heads up and it will at least tell you when you’re not going to be having a hurricane, which is good enough news to have this app on your phone.

 Download’s iHurricane With Push

Free version of a hurricane tracking software. With this app you get a very detailed view of a hurricane and can hopefully see the forcasted path of the hurricane. Don’t count on an app or forecasts to be perfectly accurate but at least this app will help you make informed decisions about your plan of action.

Wind Speed (tornado, storm, hurricane, tsunami)

Yup, you can use your iPhone mic to determine wind speed. While it won’t get you rediculously accurate results you can at least measure up to 100mph and once over that just tell your friends it was bad… very very bad.
