HubbleSite iPhone app sends you to space

HubbleSite is a free app for the iPhone that showcases the thousands of beautiful images captured over the years from the Hubble Spacecraft. Other goodies it provides are little factoids about the Hubble project, such as for whom the telescope was named, how large it is, and how fast it travels through space. It’s a space-lover’s paradise as it discusses the science behind the telescope, as well as the mechanical parts of the telescope, showcasing different views of the telescope while in space.

When you press “Home,” it starts a slideshow of various images with titles and descriptions. The slideshow is a little jerky. It’s a bit irritating, but when you see how breathtaking the images are, you soon forget the little hiccup, and move on. If you didn’t know the source, you’d swear the pictures were fake. They’re so beautiful, it’s almost unbelievable.

The app also has a way for you to interact with the app and vote on images. It gives you two images, and let’s you select the one you think is better. There’s room here for improvement, though. It has a feature that lets you save some of the images to your wallpaper, and, like many apps, gives you an opportunity to let them know how they’re doing; it has links to five social websites.
