The Rest Area app is a helpful tool for any traveler on the road, particularly those toting animals or small children.

The 99-cent app tracks the location and distance of highway rest stops and allows you to tend to the immediate needs of your baby, your dog or your extra-sensitive bladder.

Based on your current location, or any other location you choose to search, you can click back and forth from “List View” and “Map View,” alternating between a graphic of a map and a list of locations. You can then customize the order of the listed rest areas and how large a search area you would like to cover.

Each rest stop record includes information about the rest area, such as what kind of accommodations are available or if there are restaurants and snack shops inside. After searching, plot the item into Google Maps for driving directions.

If you are using an iPod Touch instead of an iPhone, make sure you have Internet access or run your search before you hit the road. If not, things could get pretty messy.
