This week was rather light in terms of large iPhone games with epic scale, so we’ll be highlighting a few smaller games in snackable bite-size format. Leading this week is Gum Drop! a new puzzle and word game from Chillingo aimed at audiences of all ages. You can read more details about this exciting game below, but be sure to check out all the top iPhone games this week for a variety of entertaining titles.

Gum Drop! (iPhone, iPad) $0.99

Gum Drop! is such a simplistic and easy-to-learn game that it doesn’t even need a tutorial; you can dive right into the action and start mastering the game within moments. In this lightweight word puzzle game, gumdrops containing various words will be displayed along the left side of the game board. Clicking the icons on the right that correspond to those words will make the icons disappear, resulting in huge combos and the gumdrop stack shrinking. If the gumdrop stack makes it to the top of the screen, you lose. Sounds easy enough, right? Chillingo is certainly one of the master game developers at creating games that are fun for all ages, and Gum Drop! is no exception. Kids will truly enjoy the bright colors and the easy gameplay, and adults just might find this game to be fast paced enough to present a challenge at the higher levels. Just don’t tell the kids that they’re actually learning and not just playing a game!

Dark Tales: Edgar Allan Poes Murder in the Rue Morgue (iPhone, iPad) Free

Big Fish Games is back again with another massive adventure and hidden object game for iOS. Originally a downloadable PC game, Murder in the Rue Morgue is now available on iPhone to creep you out. Based on Edgar Allan Poe’s famous story, this adventure game has all the elements of a great hidden object game — crisp graphics, a variety of settings, helpful clues to assist you when you get stuck, ambient background music and sound effects, and a mysterious story that will suck you in and keep you coming back for more. This app offers a free trial download so that you can give it a try and decide if you want to purchase the full game. If you are a fan of the horde of hidden object games on iPhone, Murders in the Rue Morgue will fit in nicely within your collection.

Warp Dash (iPhone, iPad) $0.99

Warp Dash is a very simple sci-fi-themed high-speed flight game in which you control a ship, collect as many triangles as possible, and leap over jumps in space. Collecting triangles and dropping them off on the jumps earns you points which are tallied on a leaderboard for comparison with your friends. Your ship moves ahead without needing to push the gas pedal, and twisting the device turns the space ship. It is a very polished game experience, but might be too light in terms of variability and content for some hardcore iPhone gamers. Even on the highest level of the three difficulties, Warp Dash feels more about chance and fate than it does actual skill. For the small price of $0.99, it may offer enough fun to make it worth the purchase.

Plushed Gold Fever (iPhone, iPad) Free

Adorable stuffed animals, mini-games, and achievements are what Plushed Gold Fever has to offer. This bright and colorful game offers three different options for gameplay, including an endless runner mind cart adventure, a brick-breaking adventure, and an exercise in aiming proficiency. All of this is wrapped up in an Old West theme with cute animal characters. While the interface of the game could use a little design help, the actual mini-games offer a decent amount of fun that kept me entertained for quite a long time. Plushed Gold Fever offers a bit of variety for everyone at the low price of free, so is definitely worth a download.

Tiny Bee (iPhone, iPad) $0.99

Tiny Bee wins the award today for being the least original yet still a ton of fun. Heavily inspired by popular games like Tiny Wings, Tiny Bee puts you in control of a precious little bee who traverses over hills. The objective is to gain enough speed by flapping your wings and going down hills so that you can collect all of the bonuses within each level. Running out of speed or getting rained on by the clouds above is enough to give you a game over, but luckily there are three skill levels so that anyone can enjoy. Tiny Bee launched on Android devices earlier this year and has just released on iOS this week for our iPhone enjoyment. It might not be the most original game around, but the polish and fun sounds might make Tiny Bee a good temporary replacement for more Tiny Wings action.
