Go from skittish flier to classy passenger with Flying without Fear iPhone app

I do not like flying — all the crazy noises and the small, crowded spaces of commercial airplanes– I really don’t like it. So I was ecstatic to learn of Virgin Atlantic’s Flying without Fear app ($4.99) even though I was flying on a much cheaper airline and the app itself was a little pricier than your typical app.

With the apps offering of relaxation exercises, fear therapy and breathing techniques, it’s a virtual therapist in the air, and in that regard, a clear bargain at $4.99. Add in the common questions feature, and an uneasy flier is transformed into an expert in moments. In fact, I felt so sophisticated after going through the information and exercises on the app that I was making fun of the skittish flier next to me in no time.

Listening to the melodies of chirping birds is extraordinarily calming in the sky. My only gripe was that my fellow passengers were so loud, I couldn’t fully enjoy the background noise of the relaxation exercises with my regular iPod headphones. I was so envious of the fancy Bose noise-canceling earphones of the woman snoring next to me that I was tempted to snatch them. Next time, I’ll bring my own. Hopefully by my next flight, there will be a smell-canceling app too.
