Frogger for iPhone fun but controls need work

I have seen Frogger fans light up at the sight of this iPhone version of the game.  Between the marginally updated graphics and the childhood reminiscence that comes along with a classic game, I can see why Frogger brings so much joy in its latest generation. It would be nice if this version was as responsive as using the joystick in an arcade.

When you first open up the game you can immediately play, but I recommend you adjust the settings first.

You can select the control options for your preferred gameplay. There are three modes: tap, slide and tilt.  The tap mode did not work well, and the screen sensitivity for this game is diminished even more if you have a protective cover over your iPhone screen. That can make the slide option a bit tricky. The tilt mode works, but depending on your frog’s position, you may have to tilt so far that you can no longer see the game.

As Apple CEO Steve Jobs recently noted earlier this month, the iPhone and iPod touch are revolutionizing the gaming industry. With that, we are seeing a resurgence of classic video games appealing to older and younger generations.

And now we have Frogger for the Apple platform. It’s a fun game for the patient player, just as it was in the arcade a generation ago. Despite the controller glitches, it is 99 cents well spent.
