Fresh iPhone Games for Feb. 16: Devil May Cry 4 and Red Nova updates, Holes and Balls

A few big updates lead the pack on today’s Fresh Games list, including a free update to Capcom’s big console port, Devil May Cry 4 refrain, which adds a character to the arcade demon-fighting action. Red Nova, a two-stick space shooter, gets a new ship and a new difficulty mode to challenge players. Then there’s the geometry puzzler Holes and Balls to round out the list, which feels like pool or mini-golf, but with more obstacles. Read about all three below.

Devil May Cry 4 refrain update (iPhone) $4.99

A scaled-down port of the action title on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, DMC4 includes the game’s signature combination of gun and swordplay, as well as extreme combos that you can use to pound enemies into submission. With 10 missions, eight bosses and arcade scores packed into each one, you can get a pretty console-like experience out of this Capcom title.

The new, free update to Devil May Cry tosses in an additional character — Dante, the protagonist of the Devil May Cry series. Refrain normally is just about Nero, another devil fighter with a half-devil arm. Dante fights in a slightly different way, although he retains the sword and pistol combo style.

Red Nova update (iPhone, iPad) $0.99

A two-stick shooter with sci-fi sensibilities, Red Nova puts you in a spaceship charged with stopping an alien sneak attack before it can destroy the human races’ planetary colonies. You can choose from three different ships to help you in battle, as well as grab power-ups to increase your killing abilities. It also includes three different difficulty levels to keep you challenged.

Red Nova’s recent update includes an easy difficulty, as well as a new ship to try your luck with that changes the dynamic of the game. You also get Game Center support to track your scores on online leaderboards and unlock achievements.

Holes and Balls (iPhone) Free

Geometry is the name of the game in Holes and Balls, in which you need to shoot a single ball to a goal at the end of the level. You’ll need to determine the angle of each shot and the power you put behind the ball to reach the hole at the end, and bounce the ball off each level’s wooden walls in order to reach the goal in one shot.

It’s not all easy, however — as you progress through Holes and Balls’ levels, you’ll find more and more objects in your way that you’ll need to either use in your reflections or avoid. In addition to being a challenging top-down puzzler in the vein of mini-golf, Holes and Balls is free to celebrate its release, so grab it while you can.
