Fresh iPhone Games for Mar. 1: Falling Fred, RoboSockets, Egg vs. Chicken

Three casual puzzle-type games adorn today’s Fresh Games list, including a bloody falling game in which you’re charged with helping Falling Fred keep from getting his brains bashed out. Get the details on it, and puzzlers RoboSockets and Egg vs. Chicken, below.

Falling Fred (iPhone) $0.99

You might have played falling games on your iPhone before, but probably not with the graphical or bludgeoning intensity of Falling Fred, a game in which your primary goal is not to get pummeled to death by objects in a shaft you can’t help but fall down. You control Fred’s descent by tilting your iDevice, in hopes of avoiding head trauma, spinning saw blades and lots of other hazards.

Staying alive for as long as possible isn’t the only goal of your falls — there are also blocks with letters on them to catch as you fall in hopes of spelling “Fred” for bonus points. You can also save your death-defying falls and replay them and share them with friends on Twitter and Facebook.

RoboSockets (iPhone) $0.99

You’ll recognize a lot of the elements in RoboSockets, a puzzler that combines bits of Tetris and match-three games. As robots fall from the top of the screen, you’re tasked with dragging them to different locations and connecting them to one another using sockets each robot has jutting out in various directions. Connecting five robots together clears them from the screen, adding points to your total.

RoboSockets pulls you through a story mode as you solve its puzzles, and includes multiple game modes. You’ll unlock lore about the “RoboCivilization” as you complete achievements and rack up high scores on Game Center, and you can integrate your game with Facebook to show off your accomplishments to other players.

Egg vs. Chicken (iPhone, iPad) $0.99

Chickens are picking on eggs, and it’s your job to strike back against them. You do so with some fast-paced match-three gameplay, in which you shuffle eggs around in a cartoon to make groups of three eggs of the same color touching one another — then launch them at approaching chickens to take them out and score points.

Egg vs. Chicken includes 36 levels of twitch and puzzle gameplay. You’ll also collect more than 25 power-ups throughout the game to help you take out more chickens, repair your fortifications, or upgrade your eggs.
