Fresh iPhone Games for Jan. 11: Silverfish and Slice It! updates, Inotia 3: Children of Carnia

Fast-twitch arcade title Silverfish just received an expansive update, adding new game modes and achievements. It’s also on sale to celebrate. It leads our Fresh Games list today, but there are a couple of other great titles too — like Slice It!, which has received new levels, and a role-playing game called Inotia 3. You’ll want to check them out: grab your details below.

Silverfish update (iPhone)$0.99

Chaotic and manic arcade game Silverfish can get pretty challenging — as a little bug fighting other bugs, you have no means of defending yourself directly. Your only hope is to guide your ever-moving silverfish around the screen, dodging enemies and collecting power-ups that fire blasts of shrapnel to kill them. Your bug’s health slowly decreases, so picking up power-ups is essential to stay in the game.

A big new update adds a new game mode that amps up the speed and craziness of the gameplay. There’s also a new control mode — a virtual directional pad — and additional achievements to give you more to do, plus a bunch of fixes to the game.

Slice It! update $0.99

The gameplay in puzzler Slice It! is simple but brilliant: you’re given various shapes and have to use swipe controls to cut the shape into pieces of all the same size. The closer you get the pieces to being the right sizes, the better your score in each level.

Slice It! has also received a big update, increasing the game’s 140 stages by another 20. There are also two Game Center challenges included to go along with the stages — it’s a lot more content to mess around with, and it’s all for free.

Inotia 3: Children of Carnia (iPhone, iPad) $4.99

This Japanese-style role-playing game is in the style of older, top-down versions of The Legend of Zelda. Hack your way past enemies, gather weapons and experience, and battle through a narrative story in a game that mirrors the old-school feel that many of us grew up with.

The game includes a cool, six-class party battle system. There’s a whole lot of game available, with more than 200 quests to complete. Fans of the genre, and nostalgia, will find an involved offering here.
