It’s all about shooting and zombies on today’s Fresh Games list. Doodle Army 2 lets you take the fight to other players online and leads the pack (mostly because it’s free), and is followed by turn-based, strategic zombie-fighting action with Tactical Soldier – Undead Rising. And rounding out the list is the single-stick shooter, Zombie Crisis 3D 2: Hunter, which takes a more action-oriented approach to zombie-squashing.

Doodle Army 2 (iPhone, iPad) Free

Take to the Internet and blast away at other players from around the world in Doodle Army 2, a side-scrolling multiplayer frag fest that uses virtual analog sticks on your iPhone’s touchscreen to control your character and open fire with whatever weapons you can find. You come to the battle equipped with two weapons that you can swap out for anything you find along the way, and a pair of jet boots that allow you fly for a short period of time to avoid danger.

Doodle Army 2 resembles a fair number of multiplayer shooting games available on other platforms, but somewhat simplified. Online, your job is to shoot other players, but the game also has a single-player survival mode in which you’ll take out as many enemies as you can before you’re dropped yourself, in an attempt to put together a high score. The app is free and ad-supported.

Tactical Soldier – Undead Rising (iPhone, iPad) $4.99

On the other end of the spectrum from Doodle Army 2 is Tactical Soldier, a turn-based game of squad tactics. Trapped in an army base filled with zombies, you’ll have more than seven hours of story to play through, in which you issue orders to your characters and plan your moves in order to win battles and survive the horror.

Tactical Soldier features full 3D graphics and boss fights sprinkled in among the zombies you’ll need to headshot. It also includes some role-playing elements as you build up your characters’ skills and abilities over time, increasing their strength so you can handle bigger, more intense fights. Game Center support also hooks you up with leaderboards and achievements to unlock.

Zombie Crisis 3D 2: Hunter (iPhone, iPad) $0.99

Need more zombies to plug? You’ll want to check out Zombie Crisis 3D 2, a single-stick shooter in which your gun is always firing and your job is to aim it at anything rotting and trying to kill you. It’ll take fast reflexes and some judicious use of the game’s dodge button to stay alive, as you gather up more powerful weapons to take down increasingly strong and numerous enemies.

Zombie Crisis lays down 12 levels of monsters to kill. The game includes Retina display support and has some high–power graphics to make sure you catch sight of every gooey pixel as you fight for your life.
