Fresh iPhone Games for Apr. 26: League of Evil update, Bubble Blast 2, Holy Moly Dragons

League of Evil, one of my favorite games for the iPhone, just became an even better bargain. The game leads today’s Fresh iPhone Games with 30 new levels and new enemies and obstacles in an update that just hit the App Store. If you don’t already own this game, allow us to try to convince you again; and when you’re done downloading League of Evil, read about a couple of other brand new titles we’re playing below.

League of Evil update (iPhone, iPad) $0.99

Every so often, the phenomenal and tough 8-bit platformer League of Evil gets a new update, and it continues to gain more and more value for the little dollar it costs to own. Already the game carries a ton of levels — 130 stages filled with enemies to fight and obstacles to dodge as you try to reach the end of each stage as quickly as possible. League of Evil includes some of the best platforming controls on the iPhone and iPad.

Another big League of Evil update adds another 30 levels, with new enemies and new obstacles to best. It’ll require new strategies to run and jump past spikes, guns and soldiers, and League of Evil now supports leaderboards through Game Center, so you can see how your best times stand-up against players all over the world.

Bubble Blast 2 (iPhone, iPad) Free (with in-app purchases)

Whether you favor puzzle or arcade style play, you’re covered with Bubble Blast 2, a game in which you’ll have to use strategy to pop a screen full of bubbles. The bubbles come in various sizes and colors — big red bubbles are ready to pop, green, yellow and blue bubbles take more work. When you tap a red bubble, it pops and sets off a chain reaction, sending pellets in four directions away from it to hit other bubbles, popping them as well. The trick is to set off a chain reaction and pop all the bubbles while touching as few bubbles as possible.

Bubble Blast 2 is free to download and comes with 100 levels in the puzzle mode and a free arcade mode. The game is pretty addictive and requires some critical thinking, and include in-app purchases for more level packs starting at $0.99 — totaling up to 3,000 levels.

Holy Moly Dragons (iPhone, iPad) $1.99

Holy Moly Dragons is another take on the tower defense genre, featuring an interesting art style and — you guessed it — dragons. Your tools of the defensive trade are different brands of dragons you can hatch and deploy to protect a goal in each level, strategically using the dragons’ different abilities to destroy enemies. You can also gather food to upgrade your dragons, making them stronger and giving them new powers.

You get 15 levels and three challenge modes for your two bucks with Holy Moly Dragons, so it should keep you busy for a bit. The game also features Game Center support and packs on the leaderboards for the competitive player.
