Miss Spider’s Bedtime Story (iPad) $7.99

Parents with children who are fans of the Miss Spider book series, fire up your iPad at bedtime tonight with a spiffed-up story.

Miss Spider’s Bedtime Story is an extension of the children’s book series by David Kirk, and it does the storytelling with a mix of spoken words, music and animation on the iPad. But it’s not just a book that talks – the app also includes games and puzzles you can play with your kids, and a painting feature that lets kids be creative in a mess-free way.

Sounds like fun, but on second thought, this might be way too much stimulation for a kid right before bedtime.

Cloudette (iPhone, iPad) Free

Seems like every day, there’s a new cloud-style file-sharing app. Cloudette is one of those, not unlike services like Dropbox, that works by downloading a program to your computer that lets you upload files to the web. The iPhone app then lets you sync up with the files you’ve saved from your computer, accessing them from anywhere that gives you 3G or Wi-Fi Internet access.

Cloudette lets you upload files from the phone side, specifically photos and other hard drive-hogs, and movie files you put into the computer program can play on your phone. It also has some planned additions coming, such as upload search functionality.

PlayOn Mobile (iPhone) Free (subscription service required)

If you’re big on the whole Internet TV movement, you’ll have heard of PlayOn. It’s a subscription service that allows you to watch Internet TV on your actual TV by syncing your computer with other Internet-ready devices, like a Playstation 3 or Xbox 360. PlayOn’s big sell point is that it allows you to watch the Internet TV service Hulu on a Playstation or Xbox, since Hulu blocks those devices from using it. The workaround is, for a price, you can just stream the videos to your computer, and then from your computer to the devices connected to your TV care of PlayOn.

PlayOn Mobile brings that syncing functionality to your iPhone. The app is free but the PlayOn service costs either a yearly fee or a big one-time payment. Once you’ve paid for it, you just have to download the program to your computer and leave it running and you can start syncing between your computer and your iPhone, allowing you to watch Internet TV wherever you are using Wi-Fi or 3G Internet.

FlightBoard (iPad) $3.99

Running FlightBoard, you might think you were standing in an airport – looking at the flight board. The app tracks a huge number of flights (around 4,000) from a whole bunch of airlines (about 1,400) to let you track the status of just about any flight, anywhere. It’s an easy and quick way to see if arriving family will be late or early or if you can take it easy as you scramble to get to the airport before a flight. The app streams in updated information every five minutes, so you can always trust that it’s current. Plus, you can quickly search for specific flights, then share them on Facebook and Twitter, just in case you and your online friends are flight-arrival enthusiasts.
