Fresh iPhone Apps for Sep. 16: Band of the Day, Final Fight, Monsters Ate My Condo

Ease into the weekend with three awesome Fresh Apps today. Band of The Day offers a new way for you to discover a different band every single day of the year. Meanwhile, Capcom has released classic scrolling beat-’em-up action game Final Fight as a standalone app. Finally, there’s Monsters Ate My Condo, a fun new game from Adult Swim which should keep puzzle fans happy all weekend.

Band of The Day (iPhone) Free

Getting a little tired of your iTunes collection? Having trouble finding something new to listen to on your commute to work or lounging around at home? Check out Band of The Day. It’s a great way to discover new music because it showcases one new band every single day, 365 days a year.

You’re able to read their bio, check out reviews, enjoy exclusive interviews, and of course, most importantly of all, listen to full-length featured tracks by each artist. You can also enjoy a curated mix-tape of songs by previously-featured bands. Worth noting: though the app is free for the first week, you need to subscribe for a mere $0.99 per month (or $9.99 for a whole year) to discover new bands. Still, that’s a small price to pay if you’re truly after hearing the latest and buzziest music around.

Final Fight (iPhone) $0.99

Originally released as part of CAPCOM Arcade, Final Fight was such a popular feature of that particular app, CAPCOM decided to release an enhanced, full-screen, standalone version of the game. Right now, it’s also available for the bargain price of $0.99 until Sept. 21, so fans of old-school fighting action should grab it now before it goes back up to $2.99.

Final Fight is a classic arcade side-scrolling beat-’em-up in which you play as either Guy, Cody or Haggar (fans of the game will want dibs on Haggar) and work your way to rescuing Jessica, who has been kidnapped by the evil ‘Mad Gear’ gang. To do this, you smash rival thugs to smithereens using on-screen virtual controls and finishing moves. You also get to face tougher bosses at the end of each round for an added challenge.

Monsters Ate My Condo (iPhone, iPad) $0.99

Monsters Ate My Condo is a new puzzle game from Adult Swim, creators of other popular iOS titles like Amateur Surgeon and Robot Unicorn Attack. As the title suggest, four ferocious monsters have decided to destroy the city and satisfy their hunger by munching away on your residential high-rise.

Stop the imminent monster apocalypse using swipe controls to match up the colored floors. Apparently, this will keep the monsters well-fed and prevent the annihilation of all mankind. Hurrah! Monsters Ate My Condo offers both time attack and endless modes to add a bit of variety. It’s a universal app so works on iPhone and iPad (iPhone needs to be 3GS or higher though), and it also supports Game Center and OpenFeint leaderboards so you can brag about your exploits to the world.
