Fresh iPhone Apps for Nov. 7: IntoNow update, GOLF Magazine, Peak Gold, W.E.L.D.E.R.

TV-based social networking app IntoNow has received a big content update, focused primarily on bringing more info for iPad users to deepen their TV-watching experiences. It’s our leading Fresh App today, followed by GOLF Magazine’s official iPad app release. In games, check out casual arcade game Peak Gold, in which you’ll have to quickly grab gold nuggets to meet your quota before you run out of gas, and W.E.L.D.E.R., a crossword-style word game that includes iCloud support.

IntoNow update (iPhone, iPad) Free

The TV-enabled social network from Yahoo! has just gotten a big update with lots of new content. IntoNow lets you watch TV shows, whether live or recorded, and “check-in” to the shows you’re watching to see who else is watching them at the same time. The app is also filled with information about the episodes you’re watching, including bits about the cast and listings of future airings of the show.

IntoNow allows you to comment on what you’re watching and share thoughts about them on Facebook and Twitter. You can access IMDb, Netflix and iTunes while you’re watching to see more info or buy more shows, and you can even get live scores for sports games as you watch. Updated content makes it easier for iPad users to find peripheral information, like actors tweets and news articles.

GOLF Magazine (iPad) Free, with in-app purchases of $3.99 per issue

The official app off GOLF Magazine has finally hit the iPad, allowing subscribers to read the magazine on the iPad for free. You can also purchase issues piecemeal on the iPad using in-app purchase. The app includes everything you’ve come to expect from GOLF Magazine, including exclusive tips and video instructions for improving your game.

The app includes GOLF Magazine’s December issue in its entirety, allowing customers to read the entire thing in digital format. The app is also designed to allow you to start reading before the issue has finished fully downloading.

Peak Gold (iPhone, iPad) $0.99

Fast-paced arcade title Peak Gold is all about precision. As a mine-diving contraption pilot, your job is to grab gold ore from conveyor belts as quickly as possible. You’re attempting to fill your gold quota before your hook-shooting mining machine runs out of gas. But you also have to avoid coal that appears on the conveyor belt, which slows up the process and wastes your gas.

As you gather more gold without missing, you can trigger Peak Gold’s “fever mode,” which gives you access to two hooks for grabbing gold instead of just one. You also get Open Feint and Game Center support for achievements and online leaderboards. You can tap stories you want to read and the app will re-prioritize those so that they’re downloaded first.

W.E.L.D.E.R. (iPhone, iPad) $1.99

The latest in the App Store’s crop of word games is W.E.L.D.E.R., a crossword game in which you’re tasked with rearranging letter tiles in order to form words. In the vein of Bejeweled, you’ll swap tiles back and forth to move letters around the board. You only have a set number of swaps, however, so you’ll need to make words quickly in order to earn points and get more swaps.

W.E.L.D.E.R. packs iCloud support with the help of iOS 5, which lets you start a game on one iOS device and finish it elsewhere. The game supports iOS 5’s dictionary, so you can look up the definitions of the words you spell. The game also features Game Center support, which provides achievements and leaderboards so you can see how your spelling skills stack up against other players.
