Fresh iPhone Apps for Nov. 24: eBay Mobile update, Cedemo, Signpost

Seems we can’t get away from shopping apps this week — sure, we’ve featured a lot in the last few days, but these are just too cool to pass up. After Thanksgiving, we’ll get back to Twitter clients and to-do list apps. Today, enjoy barcode scanning, eBay style.

eBay Mobile update (iPhone) Free

Not to be outdone by Amazon.com’s Price Check app to compare products with those you can get online, eBay has updated its eBay Mobile app to allow for barcode scanning.

Basically, you’ll have even more available options when you’re shopping this season, because in addition to comparing prices to Amazon.com and other stores, you can now instantly look up listings of a product by scanning the barcode with the iPhone’s camera. The app will give you information about auctions where you can purchase the item, which can help you get it cheaper — and you can also pull up selling options, which might be a little more useful after the holidays.

Cedemo (iPhone) Free

While we’re talking about barcode scanners, this one is just for video gamers. Cedemo uses the iPhone’s camera to scan video game barcodes to provide information about games, and works on games that are 10 years old or more.

Zap the barcode on a game you’re interested in, at home or in the store, to get inundated with info about the game and even videos showing you what it’s like. It’s a great way to check out a title after seeing it in a store to find out more about it before buying. Cedemo won’t compare prices for you, but it will clue you in on what’s popular with daily Top 10 lists, and you can search for games by name if you don’t have a barcode handy.

Signpost (iPhone) Free

If you aren’t out shopping for something specific, Signpost can help point the way. Open up this free app to get a hold of community recommended local deals in your area, from various businesses. The app uses your iPhone’s GPS functionality to narrow down just where you are, and then pings businesses around you that are offering cool opportunities.

Signpost is currently focused on Chicago, New York, San Francisco and Boston, and lets users search for deals by keyword and vote on which ones are worth checking out. The app is best when you take part in the community, and you can post deals you find on your own through Signpost for others to enjoy.
